On an unrelated note, I am relatively new to the religion and before my reversion I started wearing studs (not gold) on my ears. I've heard differences of opinion between twelver and sunni scholars on this issue, mostly because its prohibition is based on whether it resembles women or not. Since I live in the west, most males my age have piercings so it's not considered cross-dressing. Do I have to remove them as a practicing Muslim according to Zaydi fiqh?

Thank you for your question! If the earrings are such that they prevent water from reaching the skin underneath, you would have to remove them. This is similar to a ring. If it can be moved and the skin underneath can be washed without removal, you can leave them on.
