Aslam o alykum Brothers !!

i want to know that who is the current zaidi imam ?
wa alaykum as salaam!

Thank you for your question.

According to Zaidi aqeeda, one of the preconditions of an imam is that he clearly and openly manifest the call to himself. In other words, the Fatimi and 'Alawi sayyid who is just, knowledgeable, brave, etc. and calls to himself to be obeyed and followed, this person is the imam obligatory to be followed.

Since no such person has done so to date, there is no present Zaidi imam.

And Allah knows best!

thanks brother !! most recent imam was mujadid ud deen r.a ??
No problem!

There are some who said that Imam Majideen al-Mu'ayyadi (ra)was suitable for the Imamate. However, there is no clear indication that he called to himself. Likewise is the case for Sayyid Badrudeen al-Houthi (ra) and his son.

If there was a Zaydi imam, you would know it. This is because he would make the call to himself open, known and clearly unambiguous. As we said, no one has done so as of late, so there is no Zaydi imam.

Just to clarify, according to Zaydi thought, there are different types of imams: imams of knowledge and Imams (with the capital I). The imams of knowledge are those scholars who are mujtahids and excel in knowledge and the promotion of the deen. Such imams include the likes of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as), Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq (as), Imam Majideen, etc. Their independent judgments can be followed or not. However, the Imam with the capital I refers to those Alawi/Fatimi sayyids who exemplify those characteristics we mentioned earlier. These imams are those who are to be followed out of religious obligation. They include the likes of Imams Ali (as), Zayd bin Ali (as), al-Hadi (as), al-Mansur Billah (as), etc.

These two types should not be confused.

Hopefully, this clears things up.

And Allah knows best!

As salaamu alaikum brethren.
I am new to the Zaydi madhab and am having a debate with the 12ers on shiachat. They are claiming that there must be an Imam at all times. The last Zaydi Imam Majideen Al Muayyadi (as) died in 2007. I understand that Zaydis believe that there not necessarily be an Imam at all times but that there will be one for every age. Can you please provide me with hadith or Ayat supporting this position ?
wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullah.

Thank you for your question!

May Allah bless you on your path towards the school of Ahl al-Bayt! I would suggest that instead of engaging in debates with 12ers, you familiarise yourself with the basic doctrines and practices of your own school. Please peruse our translations and articles on our scribd page: www.scribd.com/imamrassisociety

Learn your basics first. Study the foundational sciences such as "The Precious Necklace" "The Abridgement of the School of the Two Imams" and "The Beneficial Summary." Also, purchase our book if you don't already have it at www.lulu.com/shop/the-imam-rassi-society...5C79657256F9B11C0D79

Knowing these things will benefit you more in this life and the next than debating 12ers.

As for your inquiry regarding the hadith in question. The Zaydi understanding is a bit different from that of the 12ers. According to our imams (as), what is obligatory upon the believers is that they have gnosis (ma'rifa) of the imam. This means that it is religious obligatory for the Muslims to know the characteristics of the imam. It is not that there must be an imam in every age. One of our early imams, Imam al-Qasim ar-Rassi (as) was asked about the aforementioned hadith and he said: "It is to know his descriptions and attributes." That is why knowing the characteristics of the imam is included among the usul ad-deen because it is necessary knowledge. It is similar to having ma'rifa of Allah. Having ma'rifa of Allah is not simply knowing that Allah exists rather, it is knowing the attributes of Allah.

The same imam also said that this hadith necessitates that the Muslims know the attributes of the imam so that they can support a just imam from the Family of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his Progeny, when he has manifested himself and so the Muslims can fight against an unjust imam.

Imam al-Hadi (as) said that it means that the believers are to "help him if he is present and know his attributes if he is absent."

Similarly, one of our imams, Imam Mansur Billah al-Qasim b. Muhammad (as) said regarding the same hadith that its meaning is that the believers know the imam when he manifests himself. When he doesnt manifest himself, the obligation is for the believers to know those characteristics of the just imam until he manifests himself.

It is nonsensical to assume that Allah is obligating the believers to appoint an imam in every age because that is not the responsibility of the believers. Having the responsibility to appoint an imam in every age would be undue hardship on the believers. And Allah does not burden the believers with that which they cannot do. It is the responsibility of the qualified candidate to the imamate to manifest himself. It is not for the Ummah to go and look for such person.

If the responsibility of imamate fell upon the Ummah, it would assume that it is the Ummah who appoints the imam. Such conclusion is antithetical to the 12er Shia position because they say that it is not the Ummah who appoints the imam.

And Allah knows best!
