Salat of the eclipse was created by Abu Yusuf
salaam `alaykum,

What is the Zaydi view on the status of the salat of the eclipse (lunar or solar, partial or complete), is it an obligatory prayer or a recommended one? And how is it performed in terms of what distinguishes it from regular salat, if there is such a distinction (i.e. how many rak`at, what is recited, etc)?

Sure. Please refer to our translation of Tajreed . It has a section dedicated to the eclipse prayer.
