Asalaamu alaikum,

What are the main books of hadith in the zaydi madhab?
Also what is the position of the nahjul balagha in the zaydi madhab?
wa alaykum as salaam.

Thank you for your question!

You can find an answer to your first question here --> www.salvationark.com/index.php?option=co...&catid=23&Itemid=116

As for your second question, Zaidis see the Nahj al-Balaagha as authentically attributed to Amir al-Mumineen (as). We even have commentaries on it. One of our Imams Yahya b Hamza (as) wrote a commentary on it. there are also commentaries on it by contemporary scholars. Many of Amir al-mumineen's statements from the Nahj are quoted in the works of our imams and scholars.

And Allah knows best!

According to Zaydi scholars, the author of Nahj Al Balagha is conssidered as a Zaydi or a Twelver ?

According to our scholars, the compiler of Nahj al-Balaagha, Sharif ar-Radi, is considered a Zaydi. He is listed in the Tabaqaat az-Zaydiyya as such. Some of his poetry indicates this as in them, it is clear that he nominated himself for the Caliphate. Such is not the action of a 12er.

It is also coupled with the fact that his maternal grandfather was one of our great imams, Imam Naasir Ali (as).

Jazaka Llahu khayr ! Where I can find these sayings indicating he claimed the caliphate ?

And I have another question : Is there some ahad narration in Nahj Al Balaagha, or all that is reported is mutawaatir and/or findable in other ancient Zayd books ?

Many thanks.

Thank you for your question!

The clearest proof that Imam Ali (as) claimed the Caliphate is sermon Shiqshiqiyya (sermon 3). He also makes reference to him being deprived of his right in sermon 217. He mentioned that he (as) had more right than anyone else after the Prophet, salla Allahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam, in sermon 197. He also mentioned that he (as) had more right than Uthman in sermon 74.

It ıs also interesting that sermon 172 was given in response to someone who told Amir al-Mumineen (as) that he was eager for Caliphate. He referred to the Caliphate as "my right". Even Ibn Abil-Hadeed said in his commentary that Imam 'Ali (as) was referring to the Caliphate as his right.

As for the narrations in Nahj al-Balagha, I am not sure if they are ahad or mutawatir. Many of these sermons do appear in Zaydi books with and without sanad.

And Allah knows best!

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but I was wondering where I could find the texts in which Sayyid Sharif Al Radi (a.s) claims the Caliphate for himself, to prove that he was not a Twelver. Is it possible to have his sayings on the subjects ?

However, thank you very much for your answer, now I have also the references of sermons where we find Imam Ali (a.s) claims the Caliphate. Very interesting.
